Download Festival 2026: Music, Mayhem, Sunshine & Showers

Ah, Download Festival 2026, we have been eagerly awaiting you! We arrive at the grounds of Donington Park once again to rain, but with a wealth of treats over a long weekend, we zip up our rain jackets and, once camped up, we head to District X for perhaps the most wholesome act of the weekend: Primary School Bangers at The Doghouse.

It seems aimed squarely at the Gen X and Millennial masses. James B Partridge’s Primary School Bangers is a charmingly nostalgic and comedic romp through songs, sounds, and anthems that resonated with childhood memories and the soundtrack of our teen angst. With a playful energy and sharp-witted observations, Mr Partridge created an atmosphere that was fun, engaging, and heartwarming. Quite simply a lovely way to ease into the festival spirit.

Creeper impressively delivered two electrifying stage sets, among others, and spooky appearances around the festival. Their blend of gothic rock and punk energy had fans singing along with fervour. The band’s theatricality and charisma were on full display, drawing fans into their world of stories and emotions. Each song felt like a mini spectacle, reinforcing their ability to deliver. Fridays set on the Opus stage were bathed in golden sunlight, and our favourite vampires sizzled through seven Sanguivore. era tracks. Mr Von Gould, finding himself unable to charm himself out of suffering quite the pain in the neck, thanks to the Mistress of Death, who was not happy with just his eye, had his head at the end of the set.

Friday night was Limp Bizkit’s headlining set, dedicated to late bassist Sam Rivers, was built around the bands signature cheeky swagger. Fred Durst, boasting the most sensationally exquisite curls, along with Wes Borland, DJ Lethal created a vibrant atmosphere that brought back a wave of nostalgia as they stormed through My Generation, Livin’ It Up and Nookie. The audience energetically engaged with things getting quite rough a fair few being carried even stretchered out. Durst’s camaraderie was on form as he engaged with security and fans alike. The four devotees pull on stage to assist with Full Nelson were unlikely alive when it was released, age no matter to any of us packed out at the Apex Stage its 2003 and the Limp Bizkit headliner it should have been twenty three years ago.

Saturday was a mixed bag with poor organization and zero queue management at the BBC Radio One signings caused a lot of wasted time. The day rescued by Black Veil Brides powerful performance that showcased Andy Biersack's remarkable ability to deliver harsh vocals with intense emotion. The setlist was a phenomenal mix that included Rebel Love Song, Revenger, and Faithless allowing BVB to demonstrate their range and depth. The set concluded the set with the iconic In the End, which always serves as a perfect finale, highlighting the band's signature sound and Andy's commanding stage presence.

Skindred's secret Sunday set, at The Dogtooth Stage, was an electrifying highlight that left the crowd breathless, maybe more than intended, as I sit here two days later nursing cracked ribs. The Welsh rockers brought their signature blend of reggae, metal, and punk to the stage, creating an atmosphere charged with energy and excitement. From the moment they kicked off with Nobody, the audience was in full throttle. Benji Webbe's charismatic presence and electrifying vocals ignited the crowd, while the band's tight performance showcased their undeniable chemistry. The unexpected nature of the set added an element of surprise that resonated a memorable experience that perfectly embodied the spirit of Download Festival, and that’s both the incredible Skindred and leaving bodily damaged.

As the dust began to settle on Download 2026, it was clear that this year as with all years, had some special moments, certainly not restricted to the above; The combination of heavy melodies and passionate lyrics was a highlight each day on many stages many times throughout the days and nights. A mesmerising performance from Decessus, a fun time was had both with Melrose Avenue and AnnisOkay. Boundaries offered an intriguing mix of aggressive riffs and melodic hooks, while Unpeople, who opened up the Apex Stage, delivered an electrifying performance that was packed with raw energy and powerful riffs. The band's tight cohesion and dynamic stage presence showcased their unique blend of thrashy frenzy, which is very loud and very appealing. In contrast, Cypress Hill brought their iconic hip-hop sound, also to the Apex stage, expertly delivering classic tracks like they were box-fresh.
